Our program is designed for the individual interest and abilities of each child. The children receive many positive and rewarding experiences providing them with opportunities to develop confidence, a positive image, and self-esteem. The teacher maintains a set of standard such that the procedures and rules are enforced consistently in the classroom. Inappropriate behavior is stopped quickly by redirecting the child to another activity. The number of children per class varies, but is much lower than average. This helps in maintaining smaller class sizes and gives us an opportunity to provide attention to all kids equally.
A "quiet time" disciplinary method is then used, and is used as a last resort. Through play, the children develop an understanding toward differences, values, feelings, and similarities of others. At times, cooperation turns into conflict, but with the assistance of an experienced teacher, the child learns to productively deal with frustration, aggression, and hurt feelings.
Cultural Awareness
The cultures of the United States and other countries will be presented through arts and crafts, storytelling, and celebration of various holidays, as well as through general opportunity to show the similarities and differences in the various cultures. Children who speak English only will be exposed to the Spanish language. Children with different cultural backgrounds will learn English in their developmental process.
